Ayurveda is one of the oldest known systems of natural healing, beneficial for everything from disease to skin problems. Ayurvedic beauty treatments and products use natural herbs, fruit and vegetable extract and so on, believing these to be better and gentler on the skin and hair. So, if your delicate facial skin is tired of chemical, artificial skin products, here are some Ayurvedic alternatives you can try for a smooth, glowing complexion.
1. Marigold or Rose Face Pack
Face Pack made from rose or marigold is great for sensitive skin that’s prone to breakouts as it has anti-bacterial properties. The milk and honey moisturise the skin so you won’t need a moisturiser afterwards. It’s perfect skincare in one pack.
Mix these with two teaspoons of milk and two of honey.
Apply on face and keep on for 20 minutes, then wash off with lukewarm water
2. Turmeric Face Pack
Use two teaspoons of gram flour with a pinch of turmeric
Mix these with rose water and make a paste
Apply on your face and keep it on for 15 minutes, before washing off.
3. Aloe Vera De-tan Pack
Aloe Vera helps in reducing the tan on your skin and can be prepared by following the below simple steps:
Take two teaspoons of aloe vera gel (easily available on the market)
Mix with a teaspoon of rose water and a spoonful of lemon juice
Apply on face every time every time you’ve been out in the sun, keep on for 15 minutes and wash off
You can use ice after you’ve used this pack to close your pores.
4. All-in-one Face Pack
Made from rose oil, sandalwood paste, buttermilk and gram flour, this is a stress-relieving face mask, so if you’ve been looking tired lately, use this at least once a week.
Mix one teaspoon of sandalwood paste, some rose oil, some gram flour and buttermilk
Apply all over the face, leave on for 20 minutes and wash off
5. Honey and Lemon Face Pack
This face pack leaves your skin squeaky clean. Lemon lightens your skin while honey is a powerful moisturiser.
Use 2-3 teaspoons of honey (organic honey works best) and mix with fresh lemon juice
Apply on face, after you’ve used a face scrub, leave on for ten minutes and wash off
6. Sandalwood Face Pack
Sandalwood softens skin and reduces fine lines. It also soothes irritated, reddened skin and makes skin lighter. To make this pack:
Use sandalwood powder, mixed with either plain water or rose water
Apply on face and leave on for 15 minutes, and then wash off. You can also leave this pack on overnight.
7. Gooseberry for Clear Skin
The gooseberry is known to make pores smaller, and remove pigmentation and marks. You can use this pack twice a week and make it at home by:
Mashing 2-3 gooseberries and mixing them with one teaspoon of fresh yogurt and a spoon of honey
Apply on face, leave on for 20 minutes and wash off
You can also try this pack with gooseberry and tamarind
8. Mint for Problem-free Skin
Mint is great for acne-prone skin and clears up marks as well. Your skin will feel fresh and oil-free and breakouts will reduce. Make this face pack through these simple steps:
Grind a bunch of mint leaves
Apply the juice to your face, with special attention to pimple-prone areas or where there are scars
Leave on for a half-hour, then wash off
9. Fuller’s Earth Face Pack
Fuller’s Earth helps in keeping skin healthy and glowing. It is also used to treat skin infections and soothe skin. These simple steps can aid in the preparation of the pack:
Use Fuller’s Earth powder mixed with rose water
Make a thick paste and apply on skin
Leave on for 20 minutes and wash off
10. Fenugreek for Oily Skin
Fenugreek seeds are excellent for oily skin, as they control the sebaceous glands and help the skin produce less oil.
Use powdered fenugreek seeds, a spoon of rose water and mint leaves
Grind the leave and make a pack
Apply on your face, leave on for 15 minutes and wash off
Chemicals are harsh on your skin and can cause damage. The effects are superficial and don’t last for long. With Ayurvedic face packs, you can be assured of healthy, glowing skin and lost-lasting effects, without any sort of harmful repercussion.
